This Healthy Beef Tacos Recipe is 6 Weight Watchers SmartPoints on the green plan, blue plan, and purple plan. They are also 304 calories for a serving of two tacos.
Beef Tacos are usually a meal that everyone enjoys. You can customize them with your favorite flavors without affecting anyone else's meals. For myself, I like them extra spicy, while my son prefers his with cheese. My husband likes his tacos as is and without any toppings. With so many preferences, making tacos is the perfect dinner recipe for everyone to be happy.
This recipe is straight forward, and I listed a few toppings ideas in this section to customize your tacos and how it would affect your daily points and calories.
What makes this Healthy Beef Tacos recipe perfect for the Weight Watchers program?
This Healthy Beef Tacos recipe is perfect for the WW – Weight Watchers program. It is easily customizable with your favorite toppings. This recipe also uses lean ground beef, making this recipe lower in fat and in calories. You have the option of adding cheese to your tacos. However, since it is a personal preference, you can still opt out by using healthy ingredients such as chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and avocados instead.
Of course, making a healthy beef taco is always a question of choice concerning which ingredients you would be using. People usually makeunhealthy choices when it's time to choose the toppings. Scheduling tacos in your meal plan doesn't mean going all out on toppings either. My piece of advice here would be to anticipate the toppings you want and calculate them in your dailies before you add them in your tacos. This way, you will have already planned your meal beforehand – taking out the element of surprise when the evening is over and you enter your meal into your WW application.
Now all you have to do is enjoy the evening and eat mindfully.
What goes first in a taco?
When assembling your tacos, you can add the ground beef mixture first in the taco shell. After, you just need to top the beef with cheese, vegetables, and sauce.
Which ingredients from these healthy beef tacos can be substituted?
These healthy beef tacos can be made multiple ways, but choosing healthy alternative ingredients will keep these tacos at a low SmartPoint value.
- 95% Lean Ground Beef: For a healthier taco, you can substitute lean ground beef with ground turkey or ground chicken. It will come at a lower SmartPoint value for the whole recipe and has lesser fat content than ground beef.
- Diced Tomatoes: Diced tomatoes can be substituted with diced Italian tomatoes
- Tacos Shells: I used the Old El Paso Hard and soft taco dinner kit for taco shells. This is obviously not the healthiest choice, but replacing this ingredient with Hard Corn Tacos will decrease the SmartPoint value of this recipe to 5 SmartPoints on all plans.
How do you make tacos from scratch?
To make tacos from scratch, you need a few ingredients. First, you need to prepare taco meat. Over medium-high heat, cook the chopped onions until they have softened and are tender. You need to add garlic and diced tomatoes to the pan and cook until they have softened.
Add the ground beef and the spices to the pan. While cooking and with a wooden spoon, break the ground beef apart. Mix the ground beef with the other ingredients, which are in the pan.
Meanwhile, reheat your taco shells following the box's instructions.
When the ground beef is cooked through, you can assemble your tacos with your favorite toppings.
